Regional Branch No. 5

21 June 2022

Legazpi City– As part of the Health and Wellness Program of the branch, all personnel of National Conciliation and Mediation Board No. 5 (NCMB-5) attended a half-day First Aid and Basic Life Support seminar in partnership with Philippine Red Cross, Legazpi City represented by Mr. Joseph Wyne M. Majares on June 20, 2022.

The seminar aims to provide basic knowledge and skills in first aid and life support as well as to enable the personnel to respond to co-workers or clients during emergencies or accidents in the workplace.

A chapter service representative for the safety services training program of the Philippine Red Cross-Legazpi Team, Mr. Majares led the discussion on First Aid and demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures using hands only, as means to revive victims of cardiac arrest who are unconscious or no signs of life to avoid transmission of the disease since we are still in the battle of Covid-19 pandemic.

“In case of emergency in the workplace or when confronted with a situation that needs an immediate action, as first aider, you should know what to do, how to assess the situation and the step-by-step process to provide first aid care”, as explained by Mr. Majares.

During the activity, they were taught how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) with continuous chest compression-only. The speaker further demonstrated how to apply basic bandaging or clean cloth as an initial treatment for fractured bones to provide support or to restrict their movement and to cover open wounds to prevent them from being exposed to infection.

At the end of the discussion, Mr. Majares reminded the staff of the importance of knowing basic first aid and life support, because in case of accidents or emergencies they will be able to help, assist or even save lives.

Admin Officer IV Roslyn Borcelis together with Supervising LEO Josephine Amaranto awarded the Certificate of Appreciation to the speaker expressing their gratitude for a very fruitful and engaging activity.

In her concluding message, Mary Claire Rico- Admin Aide VI said that “the seminar was indeed a great help for all of us for acquiring knowledge and skills on first aid and basic life support because in our way we could save lives”. /end/
